menshare
Menshare is a listening group run by and for men that was set up in Crawley in 2021. The organisation was founded by Sean Orr who recognised the need for men who are experiencing emotional distress to talk about their feelings and to be heard by other men.
As men we are often brought up to believe that it is weak to talk about how we are feeling; as a result many men struggle on their own to deal with difficult emotions.
Menshare has grown rapidly which reflects the high level of need that is in our communities. Men who come to Menshare often say that it’s the first time that they’ve been able to share how they are feeling and to be heard. They also say how important it is to hear other men’s stories and to realise that they are not alone in what they are experiencing.
Menshare are now operating in three communities Crawley, Horley & East Grinstead in Sussex and are looking for their 3rd community set-up for 2023, the group are looking for men in their own community to create a new circle for men to come and be supported, training will be provided, Our group is continually looking for local and national funding, so we can make a huge difference to men in the communities who are struggling.
It will enable us to train coaches who can provide one-to-one support in addition to the groups that we run twice a week. It will also enable us to run a number of weekend camps every year where we can provide more in-depth therapeutic support to men and the opportunity to build relationships and reduce social isolation.
As Grinstock is a company run and founded by one man, the charity Menshare resonates hugely with Grinstock’s founder. It’s a charity that tackles a part of our society that needs more attention and time put to it, being that of men’s mental health and support.
Grinstock Comedy is hugely proud to support in any way this fantastic charity set up by Sean Orr and hopes that we can help to raise much-needed funds to help this charity continue the great work they do in Sussex.
If like us you also feel this is a much-needed charity and service, you can either reach out to Menshare directly to see what you can do to help, or attend our events and help raise money for the charity.
